Schedule in some ‘Me Time’

Scheduling in some ‘Me Time’ is vital for health and wellbeing, overall happiness and joy.

We seem to have jam-packed schedules these days in our busy society. Busy people, busy minds, busy busy busy.

You might always say you’d love to do something but never have enough time. Yup, I’ve been there and still find myself sometimes coming out with those words. The truth is, we have to MAKE time.

There is enough time, we just have to understand that we are responsible for how we use it. We have to take responsibility for ourselves, our life and how we spend it.

Scheduling in some time to spend alone, with no plans, is really important. It gives you this freedom and space to just be. You can actually tune-in with yourself and wonder what you feel like. Instead of going from one plan to the other, living a life of routine, it gives you a gap to just be.

Within this gap is where creativity and imagination arises. How often can we say we have the time to day dream, draw, paint, bake or read. Whatever our hobbies are!

We spend most of our lives working and then very little time expressing our passions, how does that lead us to a fulfilling life?

So I encourage you to carry on with your routine but schedule in some time to yourself with no plans of things to do.

There is much joy felt in actually pausing with nothing to do, nowhere to go and no one to see. A slot of freedom to actually honour yourself in that moment.

Whether it’s half an hour, an evening, a day off or a weekend retreat!

Step away from the smart phones, emails, communication and distractions!

I usually try dedicating half a day or a full one depending on how I feel, to myself. To just spend time alone with no plans set in stone. It gives me a sense of freedom to explore how I feel, to really tune-in and listen to myself and see what I feel like doing. Then honouring that. Sometimes I feel like walking, exploring, some times I feel like staying in and baking! It really differs but it’s so nice to not feel like ‘Oh I really don’t feel like doing that but I have to because I planned it’.

Today I began my morning off with really simple little things that brought feelings of great joy. I got up slowly with no rush, meditated for 15 minutes or so, paused as I was grabbing for my usual breakfast of muesli and thought.. hang on, I don’t feel like that today. I have time, and I feel like being creative.. the end product was banana oat pancakes galore!

The simplicity but the beauty in pausing and creating that time and space for yourself. A gap in the busy life and daily routine.. it really is an act of love and kindness, it is a space to honour yourself in the present moment and allow creativity, spontaneity and imagination to flow through.

So if you are like me and find there isn’t enough time for the day to pamper yourself, look after your mental or physical health, nourish yourself in any way that resonates with you. Schedule it in, without feeling guilty or judgemental. It is not selfish to have time doing nothing, this is just an illusion within our society, which is why we have so many people feeling drained, exhausted and sick. In fact you will discover that once you have dedicated the time and space for yourself, you will be much happier and joyful with others.

I always find whenever I’m reaching for that extra coffee, that’s the sign of my body telling me to slow down and make some ‘me time’. Our bodies are magnificent creations that give us signs of all that we need every moment, all we have to do is listen 🙂

With love

Look deeply into nature and then you will understand everything better

‘Look deep in to nature & then you will understand everything better’
Genius Abert Einsteinbud

Perhaps unbeknown to you, you are a flower.
We are all the same but different.
Universally the same species, individually unique.
Growing and blossoming in our own time, yet all on the same journey of growth together.

We all have our moment of darkness, held tightly in a bud. The layers and walls that keep us safe and protected are a part of us, we have put them up. Yet they also keep us trapped, hidden in the dark within the claustraphobic environment that we have created. Within our bud, we live in the life of duality.. perhaps we are in the darkness, struggling to breathe in this way of life, needing the light but afraid to step out of our comfort zones, fearing what is on the other side. Yet we stay in this discomfort because it is also safe and protected.

But you are a flower. You are not made to spend your entire life in a tightly secured protected bud. It is deffinitely a part of the journey, but it is only the beginning of it. To grow unfolds from within, to unravel the layers that have made you feel protected and let them fall away. To get rid of the old and make space for the new. To uncover the beauty within and let the colour and fragrance of who you are underneath, show through.

Be curious and search for the light. This is where you thrive, this is where true inner beauty is seen.

Be courageous, watch yourself grow, let those old layers fall away because they are the walls that hide who you are. They are the walls that hide the light.

Surrender to what you are. Be curious about what you are. Be gentle and be patient, you are delicate. Remember you are beautiful, imperfectly perfect, incomparably unique yet a part of one which is life.

Life is a journey of growth as nature shows us.
Don’t live most of your life hiding, make space to grow.

You are a beautiful flower, allow yourself to vulnerable, allow yourself to open and be seen.

How yoga can lead us to a better understanding of ourselves

‘Yoga is the perfect opportunity to be curious about who you are.’

A great quote. Yet for beginners, this may seem a bit confusing and mind boggling..

How on earth are you supposed to find out more about yourself through practising some postures and breathing?

Ever been to a yoga class determined to quieten the mind and be in a peaceful space.. then find the person practising next to you has really loud distracting breathing? You can’t really ask them to stop breathing so you have the choice of being agitated and annoyed for the next hour or to change your perspective and just accept it and let it be.

Similarly in life.. we may expect things to go in a certain way but then outside circumstances change it, we either accept them and adjust or we end up suffering and hurting because we resist and let our emotions get the better of us.

Being on the mat allows us to be. A time to come to the present moment, bring awareness to ourselves, watch the mind and listen to the body.

Attempting to be present in the now is something we all manage to do for only a short period of time before we get distracted.. let alone a 90minute class! By watching how present or how easily distracted we are on the mat, we can then see that this may reflect how present we are in the rest of our lives, spending time with loved ones but thinking of work? Spending time in work but thinking about what to cook for dinner? If this is the case then you may be present physically but not as you, this is how you let life slip by because you’re never really there if you’re not really present.

Being on the mat brings this new found awareness into your life.

Watching the mind can prove interesting in yoga, especially when you come to postures that appear difficult. The mind might say ‘I can’t do that’ before even trying. How many times does this then also reflect in your normal life? The mind might be too busy concentrating on how much more flexible your neighbours are compared to you leaving you feeling inferior ; could this also be true that you then spend a lot of time comparing your life with other peoples?

One of my favourite reasons I enjoy practising yoga or meditating is so I can see where my mind is at. Everyone’s state of mind changes from moment to moment depending on what’s happening. I can wake some mornings and be fully present and peaceful, other times my mind will be thinking of past, future, day dreaming and distracted and that then tells me that I need to put some extra work into achieving peace for myself and doing less.

It let’s you come to know yourself in a new way, listening and allowing you to help yourself.

How much do you listen to your body? Do you find that you will attempt the full posture instead of a variation because everyone else is doing that, even though your hamstrings might be yelling for you to stop pushing yourself. Or do you find that you could push yourself further into a posture but you like to relax and play it comfortable? Again, these things can all reflect in how you go about your daily life.

So.. Let the yoga mat be your place of learning, enter with an open-mind and child like curiosity. There is no need to judge any of these things that you may discover about yourself. Observation is simply watching, don’t take it too seriously and put a judgement of it being bad or good. See it as a game and say ‘thank you for that lesson, I can now be aware if I do something similar in daily life.’

‘Yoga is the perfect opportunity to be curious about who you are’

Namaste!

Love

QUOTE - EVERYTHING IS LOVELove is the answer to the healing of ourselves, humanity and all living beings. Once we find the love within ourselves, then we can share it.

To see everyone’s actions as coming from love or a calling for love – We are all humans. perfectly imperfect. We slip up, we make mistakes, when this happens we need love, support, understanding.. there is no need to judge, criticize, compare one another. We are all the same beneath the surface, we have the same fears and the same deep earning for love & connection.

To live life only viewing yourself and others from the surface, is to miss out on a life of depth and meaning. Life has infinite depth, you have infinite depth. You have meaning, Life has meaning.

You are Love. Life is Love.

Feeling lonely? Perhaps the universe is teaching you to enjoy being alone

I’m sure most of us have had difficult times where we have felt isolated, alone, lonely..

We have craved company, socialising or perhaps the opposite but not bearing to be with ourselves.

Why is it that we have all this time alone.. why not look at it with curiosity.. I believe everything is exactly as its supposed to be.

I remember for the best part of last year I felt lonely. I couldn’t quite understand it because all my friends seemed to have their lives set out, and I seemed like the odd one out, the failure. The only one back at home, not knowing what step was next.

After months of this, I began journalling.. I cant remember what got me started but It helped.

It made me put things out of my mind, just getting it out on paper was a de-stress, less confusion of it all buzzing up there.

The big shift came a year ago when I was casually writing my thoughts and I realized I didnt do anything i did as a child.. reading, dancing, painting.. So i joined the library.. and then I started reading many books about the mind, life, spirituality.

As you can see, it was a bit like a domino effect, it all just began coming together. I learnt to let go of fears and anxiety and replace it with trust, faith.. and it all began to make sense to me.

I was alone, still. But instead of resisting it, I let it strengthen me. I began by taking myself out of the house on walks in nature, I went to my favourite coffee shop and read of wrote or people watched, I made the most of being able to relax, I found things to be grateful for. I began by being the person I wanted to be, I remember saying hello to people, smiling and wishing them a good day.. the difference that made me feel and the response I got was incredible. It set my day up, just those small little things.

I still feel lonely sometimes.. there’s definitely been plenty of those times whilst travelling too, noit necesserily when I havent had company, but felt alone as not to be myself and connect with others. They’re all places for growth, strength, practise.

Life is a continious cycle of surrendering, letting go, trusting in the divine.

Have faith in what’s to come. Let go and let be.

Accepting the present moment and becoming aware of the ego resisting it

Yesterday I was questioning my feelings over something. I had shared a lovely day with someone who I really connected with. In my rational mind I knew this was the only day we’d spend together and whilst travelling I agreed with myself it would be best not to continue messaging etc afterwards because that’s how relationships gets complicated. I felt happy and accepted that I had a wonderful day and to keep it that way. Yet a small part of my ego wanted more though, just a goodbye message etc. Yet I knew a goodbye message wouldn’t be enough and I’d want others – this would complicate things and develop attachment.

So I began to question why did my ego want this message? I wanted proof that this had been a special day. My ego wanted to be special. Although I knew it deep down, my ego wanted the clarification and the drama. My true self wanted peace, acceptance and happy memories to leave things as they had been perfect.

By wanting more than what was happening in the present moment I was creating suffering and unhappiness. The ego always wants more, seeks drama and attachment and will want to be special. It was very interesting to observe this going on in my mind whilst I knew deep within myself that the better choice I had was to be content with the present moment. To flow freely and accept I’d met this person and we had created lovely memories. I didn’t truly want attachment or feelings to grow as this would only add drama to my life, I want to be free.

Many of us aren’t aware when the ego seeks attachment and I wasn’t aware until days later. The ego always wants more than what the present moment gives, therefore we feel discontent, unhappiness and focus on what we don’t have or what we wish we could have. Although sometimes we’re caught up in the ego and by taking a step back in reality we realise that’s not what we want at all. It’s very interesting, so next time you find yourselves feeling like you want something more, question why that is. Is that you or is just your ego? Everything happens for a reason so accepting that some things happen and others don’t, it’s all for a reason.

Let go of fear and trust the universe

I know this sounds easy to say let something go and trust it will work out.

A friend of mine in Australia told me if you ever get stuck in the waves and can’t get back to shore, don’t panic, stress or fight against the current. Stay calm and breathe and go with the flow instead of resisting the current. that way it will eventually bring you back to shore.

I thought to myself – that sounds a bit like life in general. When we get into a complicated situation we resist that it’s happening, we get stressed or worried and we try to fight against it because we feel out of control. If we look at the bigger picture and realise we’re not in control and have to accept that situation as it is, then we have our emotions under control and can think more clearly. we can go with the flow and adapt to what’s happening.

If like me, you believe everything happens for a reason then it’s easier to accept things. When I go through a difficult time it’s hard to think this is meant to be happening, but sure at the end it is if I learn from it. Life will never give us anything we can’t handle, therefore we need to trust in the universe and give up the need for control. Anything that is meant to happen to us, will. For good reasons, to teach us and to let us grow.

Let go of fear – have faith and trust.
For example I was really scared of walking at night in the Australian bush, I would shake and my heart would beat like crazy, in fight or flight mode. Then I realised fear is taking over me because I’m not in control. And then I let it go because i realise I’m not in control and being scared won’t change that. I just trust everything will be ok. If anything bad happens then it’s meant to be, to teach me
Something new. Although I give good out to the universe and believe only good will come back to me, that’s belief and trust in how the universe energy fields work.

We can’t give out negative and expect positive back. Trust means having faith, having faith in yourself and having faith in life. Once you give up that fear and have trust that no matter what everything is meant to be and everything is for your personal growth , that’s when you begin to go with the flow. Accept whatever happens and let it teach you. Life is full of lessons, we just have to accept and listen to them instead of resisting and fearing them.

Remember ,
The sun is always shining 🙂

Where the Ego is concerned, we’re all actors playing different Roles in life.

Have you ever witnessed somebody your close to, meet new people and they act completely different? That’s not them, that’s their ego.

Have you ever been asked by a shop assistant how are you and replied im fine thanks, even though you’re feeling sad. That’s not you, that’s your ego.

When you go to the hair dresser do you feel the need to make conversation, even though you’d prefer to be sitting in silence? That again is your ego.

Our ego like to play different roles with different people. When we’re buying something for example, we play the role of a customer – making general chit chat because that’s what customers do. We’re acting like a customer.

When we meet different people we don’t act ourselves, the ego kicks in. For example you would act a different role if you were to meet the queen, yet how would you act if you were to meet her cleaners?

We would probably feel inferior looking up to the queen, acting like we’re from the same class, trying to be someone we’re not.

With the cleaners we would perhaps talk down to them and feel superior, that we are better, again being someone we’re not.

When we are in a situation when we feel superior or inferior, that’s when we can become aware that’s not our true self – its our ego. When we’re playing roles of the ego, that’s when we are not being real, we don’t connect as humans and realise that we are all the same.

So much of the time we let what we do for work take over who we are. We let our ego take over and believe that what we do for work, what we look like on the outside, what we own, what social class we are in – that’s who we are. But its not, that’s not what defines us. We are so much more than everything thats outside of us.

For example if you become a parent, yes it takes over your life but you are still you, a person, a human being with a life. If you are sick, you are not that sickness you are simply dealing with a sickness. If you are a content living in a council estate, it doesn’t make you any less successful as somebody with a mansion that may be deeply unhappy.

We play the different roles to act to peoples different expectations. We act differently with our friends to when we’re with our parents, why is that? Are we afraid our parents wont accept us as we truly are, or are we putting on a role of behaviour when we’re with our friends that our parents wouldn’t recognize?

Perhaps think about how you act differently with different people. Observe how you are, are you the same person with your family, friends, co-workers, public? If not, question why? Why are you afraid to be who you truly are.

I felt sad on public transport a while back and although I wanted to cry and could feel the emotion building up, i didn’t let it out because I was worried what other people would think of me. I was worried they’d stare at the girl crying. I observed that experience and now I question why, it was obviously my ego. You’re not meant to show your emotion unless you’re happy, that’s what my belief was and that’s for many others too. That’s why so many people plaster a smile on their face and say ‘im fine’, yet they question the meaning of their life and cry at home most nights.

Why are we all lying to each other? Why can’t we be open and honest when things are bothering us? Because our ego’s get in the way. Our ego’s dont want us to be vulnerable, if we’re open then we may easily get rejected therefore its easier to stay guarder and cold, sticking to the smiley yes im fine. This is why we’re not connecting with each other as beings and instead using assumptions and judgments to rule our life – letting the ego live our lives.

I hope this post helps people identify when the ego starts to kick in. Don’t be ashamed or beat yourself up about it, it’s perfectly natural. The ego is very strong, only when you become aware of it and its actions, thats when it becomes weaker.

Challenge it and see for yourselves 🙂

Remember, the sun is always shining 🙂
