The Secret – by Rhonda Byrnes – REVIEW

So after reading the secret by Rhonda Byrnes, I thought I have to write a review and let you all in on ‘the secret’. I have read many books that have opened my mind and changed my life through my way of thinking – this is a life altering book and I am truly grateful for finding it.

‘The Secret’ is based on sharing the secret to a fantastic life, a life of abundance and positivity. It is a book that is written by many people; With quotes, true story examples and information on how the secret works. It has scientific research evidence and information. Most of all if you practise what you read you won’t need any of that because you will see things in your life change in front of your eyes – like magic.

Vocabulary wise it’s a good read, not a story but more documented and very simple to follow in short paragraphs and each chapter explains quite easily what it stands for.

the secret works on improving your life – your relationships with people, finances, work/career, health and most importantly your thoughts.

I would suggest you read it over a month or two, not rushing so you can absorb the information and incorporate it into your life.

my experience with the secret –

i began reading the secret in January and I really wasn’t feeling it, it felt forced and I wasn’t open to what it was saying. So, I left it. In May I began again and this time it felt right so I continued. What i first found was that it was based a lot of materialistic things and finances, which made me realize I think of money as a bad thing when really it’s greed that I disagree with. I realised that we attract things through our thoughts in ‘the law of attraction’.

I can’t tell you what the secret and the law of attraction is through this blog but I highly suggest you read it if it interests you.

all I can say is that almost daily occurrences have happened – at first I thought they were coincidences and then there’s just no way when it happens almost daily. Every day I would think of an item of food I needed and every day I would find it in the free box of the hostel I was staying in. So precise it would be mind blowing. Then it started happening with bringing all the kind of people I needed to meet into my life. Then opportunities and experience.

basically if you’re clear in what you want in life all you need to do is ask and believe but most importantly you need gratitude for everything you already have. It truly makes you realise anything is possible, we are able to create anything we want – most of the time we just don’t know what we want because we¬†think so much is impossible – it isn’t!

Show love and gratitude daily for everything – this will change your life in so many ways.

If you’re intrigued – read the secret!

and let me know how you go ūüôā

theres a difference between being selfish and looking after yourself

In our society we have been taught that were selfish if we do as we please, put ourselves first and make ourselves happy before someone else. This is not reality, it’s a misconception to believe that other people are responsible for our happiness, and we are responsible for theirs. We are neglecting ourselves if we say yes to something when inside were shouting no. We aren’t being kind to ourselves if we stay unhappy just because we know we’re making someone else happy. We have this inner voice and feelings as a sign to show what we want in life, it’s there for a reason so listen to it.

it would be selfish for someone to ask you not to put yourself first.

A paragraph from the secret –

Unless you fill yourself up with love first, you have nothing to give to anybody. Therefore it is imperative to tend to you first. Attend to your joy first. People are responsible for their own joy. When you tend to your joy and do what makes you feel good, you are a joy to be around and you are a shining example to every child and every person in your life. When you are feeling joy you don’t even have to think about giving. It is a natural over flow.

lets show an example –

lets say and old man asks you to do his washing for him, of course you want to help and be kind do you probably would. Then it becomes a routine and you end up doing it weekly. Then life starts to become hectic and you have many other things going on and you’re stressed trying to keep everyone happy. You feel it would be selfish to stop doing the old mans washing but inside you really don’t want to do it anymore as it’s just another thing on the long list. In truth it would be selfish for the old man to continue expecting this from you if he knew everything else you had going on.

Listen to yourself, be honest in a situation and know you have to put yourself first which sometimes means saying no to things that make others happy but yourself unhappy, sick or stressed.

Lose yourself to find yourself

many people struggle with the feeling of losing themselves, not knowing who they are or finding who they are. If you consider yourself as one of these people, see it in a positive light. How can you find yourself if you weren’t to lose yourself in the first place?

Here’s a paragraph from eckhart tolle’s book, A new earth:

‘To the ego it will seem as if you were losing yourself, but the opposite is the case. Your ego is a form-identity, as your ego becomes less, you become more. If you are alert enough, you may be able to detect some of these unconscious patterns within yourself;

Demanding recognition for something you did and getting angry or upset if you don’t get it. Trying to get attention by talking about your problems, the story of your illnesses, or making a scene. Giving your opinion when nobody asked for it and it makes no difference to the situation. Trying to make an impression on others through possessions, knowledge, good looks etc. Taking things personally, feeling offended, making yourself right and others wrong.

Once you have detected such a pattern within yourself, I suggest you conduct an experiment. Find out what it feels like and what happens if you let go of that pattern. Just drop it and see what happens.

De-emphasising who you are on the level of form is another way of generating consciousness. Discover the enormous power that flows through you into the world when you stop emphasising your ego, your form identity. ‘

I think this is a great paragraph for us all as I’m sure we can all find some truth within ourselves and those behavious. For some, reading that might make you feel angry, or your ego angry I should say. There’s so much truth in those words, it take guts to accept that truth within yourself. By becoming aware of that truth, you have the awareness to change and grow.

We can only change things we don’t like once we become aware and accept our ego’s behaviour. Only when your ego feels small will you be able to grow as your true self.

Top 5 books that Changed my life

Here’s a list of my top 5 books that had a huge impact on my life. Each of them very different but all coming together at the end to preach the same thing. We are all the same.¬†

In time I will do a whole review on each one –¬†

– Louise.L.Hay – You can Heal Your life’ –¬†

The first book I read on helping myself. Amazing. An easy read with simple vocabulary, exercises to practise what you read and affirmations on how to speak positively to yourself. This book really was the start of something new for me, some people may find areas hard to read because it strips right down to your core beliefs and lets be honest, not everything we see about ourselves is going to be nice. It questions your beliefs, it gives you so much empathy and understanding for others, teaches you how to let go of negative feelings and grudges. Most of all it really concentrates on how to fully accept yourself and love yourself as you are. Then you are able to accept others and love them as they are.

– Eckhart Tolle – The Power Of Now –

This was the second book I read and although Its harder to digest (for me) as there was vocabulary i’d never used before, it still made sense and it was great because I learnt new words! Many of you might of seen quotes by Eckhart Tolle, a very wise man. So this book concentrates on Being in the now, which also relates to observing the mind (this is where i was introduced to it). So if we think about it, most of the time our mind is in endless chatter – we’re either feeling sad or angry about the past – regretting, or over-thinking why something happened, or holding on to an argument that happened 3 years ago. On the other hand we’re stressed, worried and anxious because our minds are projecting into the future, what if something happens, i dont have plans ready for next week etc. Either way if our thoughts are constantly going backwards and forwards then we’re never in the now. We’re never present and missing our lives. Eckhart Tolle shows us how to practise being in the now, sharing his wisdom from his experience. Living in the now can benefit you so much, a great read.

-The Four Agreements – Don Miguel Ruiz –¬†

The Four Agreements is quite a simple read, it’s straight to the point with the four main agreements we need to keep to ourselves to obtain a happy, healthy life. With only four agreements to keep, that’s not too many to remember. Its great because you actually find yourself pausing and thinking back to the book and practising the agreements in day-to-day life. Theres no exercises to do in this book, it simply is sticking to the 4 agreements and learning as to why they will change your life for the better – it all makes perfect sense when you read what Don Miguel has to say.

– The Road Less Travelled – Scott.M.Peck –¬†

This is a great book, perhaps not the easiest vocabulary wise, you need deep concentration and no distraction so a good one when you’re alone. Scott.m.Peck is a psychiatrist and shares his knowledge on the mind. This book is on a much more spiritual level but it really makes you question yourself, your beliefs, what love really is and our actions and how they affect others. A man sat on the table with me at a cafe whilst i read this book and told me it changed his life, it even inspired him to become a psychiatrist. There is a whole lot of truth in this book.

– The 21 day consciousness cleanse – Debbie Ford –¬†

Although Im near the end of this book, not quite finished, I thought id fit it in anyway. It’s an easy read, its very structured with a good content. It feels like a mini project for yourself which is great, and something small you can incorporate daily as the chapter aren’t too long and theres one for each day with different exercises and prayers. A much more spiritual book to connect with your inner self.¬†

I hope you find these guidelines beneficial Р  (I took mine out from the library so it can also be free!)

There’s plenty more if you look online.

Please dont underestimate the power of a book.. I can honestly say they’re amazing.

I would advise you read them in the order I’ve put down as it would make more sense and easier understanding.

Let me know what you think if you do manage to read, or comment any suggestions i should check out as I love new reads!
