sprinkling positivity

My Daily Affirmation

I thought it would be nice for me to share my daily affirmation with you guys, it’s simple, meaningful and takes 2 minutes if you’re short on time.

I usually like to practise yoga or sun salutations to begin with to focus my energy inwards and quieten the mind (this is optional and not necessary when short on time)

I then bring my hands in prayer position to my forehead with the mantra

– ‘I bring kind thoughts to myself, and others.’

Secondly I move my hands to my lips, still in prayer position

– ‘I bring kind words to myself, and others.’

I then move my arms to the middle of my chest, near the heart

– ‘I bring kind actions to myself and to others.’

Finally finishing with a bow and namaste.

This mini affirmation is great to start the day, it sets intention to be kind to yourself and everyone else through how you think, speak and act. Making sure we are not harshly commenting or judging ourselves, dont call ourselves names and don’t abuse ourselves. The same towards others. I find It stays in my mind all day then too 🙂

I also usually add on a little thought for what I am grateful for, what I would like to achieve from my day or life in general. This is great for focusing your thoughts on positive outcomes and being clear about what you want. Its also great for making you feel great, focusing on what you do have and what you’re grateful for instead of focusing on what you don’t have.

Let me know if you decide to practise it also, and if you feel a difference! Remember, it only takes 2 minutes but it could transform your day, your relationship with yourself and everyone else you encounter.

Living with uncertainty

In life we face periods of uncertainty and feelings of insecurity. Especially as young adults growing up in society these days we face a high percentage of unemployment and financial problems, pressure from media telling us how we should look and behave and general judgement from society if we don’t conform.

Is there any wonder there’s a huge rise in mental health issues?

It all comes from uncertainty. Are we certain of our future? No. Yet we’re living in a world where we’re pressurised in knowing what we want to do for our careers, frowned upon if we don’t.

Unfortunately we’re not all blessed in knowing what we want to do for the rest of our lives. The very thought of it sends us into melt down. Or we might know what we want to do but we live in fear of not achieving it, fearing failure.

We waste so much energy on fear, focusing our energy on it in fact. Fear comes from resosting uncertainty. When we’re refusing to accept what were feeling that’s when fear arises.

Eckhart tolle said –

“When you become comfortable with uncertainty, infinite possibilities open up in your life. It means fear is no longer a dominant factor in what you do and no longer prevents you from taking action to initiate change. If uncertainty is unacceptable to you, it turns into fear. If it is perfectly acceptable, it turns into increased aliveness, alertness and creativity.

Think about it, when you don’t accept a situation for what it is, that’s when you become scared. If you don’t know what you’re doing with life, it’s only when you can’t accept that ; that’s when fear arises. If you can accept you don’t know what you’re doing with life then you don’t feel fear, you accept it as a moment that won’t last forever and with that you can focus your energy on creating new possibilities instead of focusing your energy being stuck in fear.

If you are afraid of failure then you’re not accepting of the present moment. You’re focusing on the future and you are stuck because all your energy is stuck on fear, you cannot create possibilities for yourself from fear. Only acceptance.

Going with the flow of life and accepting you are exactly where you’re supposed to be. You’re doing and feeling exacty what you’re supposed to be. Accept that. Give up your fear. Then the answers will come to you, your energy with focus on your possibilities.

Don’t create suffering for yourself. Resisting what you’re feelings won’t change it, it will only cause you suffering. So why not let go of that and just think ‘f**k it* I don’t know what I want to do and that’s just the way it is for now. Or if you feel that you’re not succeeding in whatever you want to do, just accept that job isn’t for you but another one that is better will be on its way. Things that don’t happen are just not meant to be.

“The desire for safety stands against every great and noble enterprise.”

Let go of fear and accept uncertainty.

Having faith doesn’t have to be related to a specific religion

Faith, religion, beliefs. What do they all actually mean?

I used to say i hate religion, it causes war. I thought you only had beliefs if you followed a religion and as I didn’t believe in anything, I didn’t have faith.

In reality we are all religious to some extent, we live our lives following our own beliefs about things perhaps not about a god but we do have beliefs about how the world works.

The other evening I had a very interesting discussion with a man when he questioned If I was religious. I said I was trying to remain open minded to my beliefs as I was open to change and developing new beliefs. This man was an athiest and therefore did not consider himself religious as such.

I explained to him that in recent months my beliefs had changed, I started believing in a ‘higher power’, a ‘god’ if you like. I believe that we are all a creation of the higher power, therefore we have a part of the higher power within us. I don’t relate the higher power to any specific religion but only what I choose it to be. The man questioned why I believed in this, and its simply because my life has changed drastically in the last 6 months since I’ve had faith in a higher power.

Carrying on with the conversation, he started questioning me on my values of letting things go, not reacting to situations and creating suffering for myself and others. The scenario he used was

‘Someone pushes into you in the street and starts having a go at you, pushing you about, would you not defend yourself and fight back?’

There’s a difference I believe in defending ourselves and fighting back. Fighting only causes more conflict, drama and suffering – for myself and the other person involved. It is only the ego within us that wants to fight back and react.

My reply was ‘I would try to respond, not react’. Many hurtful words and actions come from the ego’s reaction, whereas if we take a step back and respond to the situation calmly, we will get a different response from the other person.

Back to beliefs – This man couldn’t understand that I didn’t have any future plans, goals, what I will be doing in 5 or 10 years time. This does work for some people, you might be one, on the other hand you may be like me and get stressed or anxious if we set high goals for ourselves and look too far into the uncertain future.

I have faith that in 5 years time I will be doing exactly what I need to be doing. I believe that anything that comes my way is meant to be, i will try to accept everything that comes with open arms instead of resistance. Having faith in the higher power means I feel safe, it means i can live life from a place of love instead of fear. I have always been worried about what I’d do in the future, now I feel that it’s ok, all is well, all will work out just as they’re meant to.

Some people may read this and think, ‘she’s living in lala land not reality’. I probably would’ve read this two years ago and thought the same. The reason I believe the way I do is simply because I am living proof. I chose a completely different path of life to the one I had planned, It scared me to death not having plans for my future.  Hence I was wasting the present moment of my life, which lead to months of worrying and anxiety because I was looking too far into the future. Now I see it was all exactly how it was meant to be, those months of suffering was to get me to where I am today. I wouldn’t be in Australia, writing this blog right now otherwise, and right now there’s no other place I’d rather be.

The conversation ended up with me starting to feel slightly anxious about my future, with my mind starting to build up thoughts of setting myself a plan. The thing is life changes, plans change and I have no control over that. Therefore I will go with the flow, experience what I need to that’ll give me answers, and have faith that everything that I need will come to me.

Faith comes from a place of love, not fear.

I’m not saying you should all believe in a god, or a higher power. I’m saying, believe in whatever you want to believe in. Become interested, pay attention to your beliefs. What do you really believe in, forget about society, family and friends – they’re not you and they will respect whatever you choose. 🙂

If anyone is interested in reading more about positive affirations, how energy connects us and the higher power then have a read of Louise.L.Hay’s books or Eckhart Tolle. Life changing 🙂

Let go of fear and trust the universe

I know this sounds easy to say let something go and trust it will work out.

A friend of mine in Australia told me if you ever get stuck in the waves and can’t get back to shore, don’t panic, stress or fight against the current. Stay calm and breathe and go with the flow instead of resisting the current. that way it will eventually bring you back to shore.

I thought to myself – that sounds a bit like life in general. When we get into a complicated situation we resist that it’s happening, we get stressed or worried and we try to fight against it because we feel out of control. If we look at the bigger picture and realise we’re not in control and have to accept that situation as it is, then we have our emotions under control and can think more clearly. we can go with the flow and adapt to what’s happening.

If like me, you believe everything happens for a reason then it’s easier to accept things. When I go through a difficult time it’s hard to think this is meant to be happening, but sure at the end it is if I learn from it. Life will never give us anything we can’t handle, therefore we need to trust in the universe and give up the need for control. Anything that is meant to happen to us, will. For good reasons, to teach us and to let us grow.

Let go of fear – have faith and trust.
For example I was really scared of walking at night in the Australian bush, I would shake and my heart would beat like crazy, in fight or flight mode. Then I realised fear is taking over me because I’m not in control. And then I let it go because i realise I’m not in control and being scared won’t change that. I just trust everything will be ok. If anything bad happens then it’s meant to be, to teach me
Something new. Although I give good out to the universe and believe only good will come back to me, that’s belief and trust in how the universe energy fields work.

We can’t give out negative and expect positive back. Trust means having faith, having faith in yourself and having faith in life. Once you give up that fear and have trust that no matter what everything is meant to be and everything is for your personal growth , that’s when you begin to go with the flow. Accept whatever happens and let it teach you. Life is full of lessons, we just have to accept and listen to them instead of resisting and fearing them.

Remember ,
The sun is always shining 🙂
